Forgiveness Falls Like Rain On Our Hands

picture-2.pngDoing wudu (ablution) before performing Salat is considered to be just one of those daily things in a Muslim’s life. Very rarely do we actually pay attention to doing wudu properly – I can attest to that myself. At times, I’m just like “wash hands, rinse mouth, clean nose, wash face, arms, ears, feet,” just get done. I personally never bothered much to “perfect” my wudu, partly because I never understood the great rewards that lay in performing this simple act.

Umar ibn al-Khattab narrated that the Prophet (pbuh) said, “There is no one amongst you who does wodoo’ and does it properly and does it well, then he says…

“I bear witness that there is no God except Allah, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His Messenger”

…except the gates of Paradise will be open to him and he may enter through whichever of them he wishes.” (Muslim)

SubhanAllah! Paradise for doing wudu properly?! That’s quite a catch! And hold on, it just gets better – check this out:

Humraan, the freed slave of Uthman, said that he heard Uthman say that the Messenger of Allah (pbuh) said, “Whoever does wudu as I have done it, then prays two rak’ahs in which he focuses completely on his prayer, his previous sins will be forgiven.” (Muslim)

SubhanAllah and Alhamdulillah that Islam is such a merciful deen. Indeed, it is beyond us to comprehend the Mercy of Allah (swt)- imagine, being forgiven for ALL of our sins just because we tried our best to focus on wudu and then prayed with khushoo. We sin so much everyday, and yet we have so many opportunities to clean our slates! Dawud Wharnsby Ali, in his nasheed “Life Returns,” sums it all up pretty well:

We are the cracked earth, the thirsty, dirty spirit of man. If we gasp, we will be heard. Forgiveness falls like rain on our hands.

Dude, yesterday the khateeb mentioned how Allah makes things so easy for us particularly in the month of Ramadan. Jahannam’s gates are closed, Jannah’s are open, Shaytan’s locked up, Allah’s forgiving people destined for Hellfire every night, Lailtul Qadr is there, all these things. How easy is it to seek forgiveness!

Not to mention the Prophet (SAW) said whoever fasts in Ramadan, or prays the nights of Ramadan, or prays the night of Lailatul Qadr with two conditions: (1) believing in Allah [we've got that down we're Muslim] and (2) hoping for his reward [gotta make that intention], then bam, forgiveness.

So many opportunities. It’s like how can you NOT be forgiven this month? It makes sense now why Jibreel (AS) said whoever from our Ummah finds Ramadan and can’t have his sins forgiven will be perished in the Hellfire.

    Salaams.

A beautiful post sis. It’s the little things isn’t it? How do we overlook the little things.

With much love in my heart for you and this ummah…

    Abdul Malik: It’s Surah Ha-mim, verse 39 :-)

Huddi: Allahu ‘Alam! Maybe you can do a little research on it and let me know inshaAllah :-)

Wow, the recitation at the beginning of that audio was so touching, it literally bought me to tears in a few seconds. I really marvel at the power of the Quran when it is read correctly. Imagine listening to it from the prophet.

As for wudu, thank you for the reminder. It is nice to bring attention to the little acts we do and remind ourselves what they are worth. Truly everything is for Allah and to Him we shall return.

I used to listen to this nasheed merely for the pleasure of hearing the ayaat at the beginning…

Jazakumullahu Khairan fa Ahsanal jazaa for bringing to my attention that which Lord has blessed us with!

InhshaAllahu Tabaarak wa ta’ala, i’ll be paying more attention when I make wudhu from now on…n May Lord ‘azza wa jal reward you for it…Aameen…
