When Asking Allah, Leave Nothing

Don’t you hate the fact that attendance can affect your grades, even when you’re paying thousands of dollars a year in tuition? Me too. I’m not trying to toot my own horn, but last semester I was doing really well on all of the assignments of one of my electives, alhamdulilah. A combination of easy grading on the professor’s part, and actually turned-in-on-time work on my part combined for some solid marks.

Then, it all went south.

As a commuter living about 30 minutes away from campus, going to school is not always on my list of wants early in the morning. Along with some legitimate absences, I ended up accumulating about 7 absences for the semester. Despite my strong performances on papers and exams, the teacher ended up giving me an average grade, when I really had deserved higher than that. After many e-mail exchanges, it became evident that the professor was not interested in compromising to give me a better grade. Or so it seemed.

After days and days of pleading to Allah and then to my professor, I gave up on both. What was the point of asking anymore? She wasn’t going to listen, and it was clear my du’aa wasn’t going anywhere.

Whoa whoa whoa! Calm down, AbdelRahman (sorry, occasionally I reprimand myself). This was a bigger mistake than missing 7 class meetings during the semester…way bigger.

Allah says in the Quran, “And your lord said pray to me, I will respond to your invocations,” (40:60).

There I was, making du’aa for three or four days and getting frustrated because I didn’t see any results of my supplication. Prophet Ibrahim waited 75 years before his du’aa was answered and he was granted a son. I couldn’t even manage a few days and I was already getting frustrated? Subhan Allah!

My mistake was shown to me by my mom, as always. Once my impatience was checked, I started asking Allah again. Although it seemed like nothing would change, I kept asking, trying my best to believe with my heart that Allah would answer if I kept asking Him.

Alhamdulilah, I just made an appointment with that professor to “discuss things” next week. Allahuakbar!

When it comes to du’aa, Allah [swt] is totally opposite to human beings. Allah [swt] likes being asked more and more! When you ask Allah day-in and day-out for something that you really, absolutely need or want, He loves it - as long as what you’re asking for is halaal, of course.Don’t forget to keep asking for what your heart desires. If you don’t get it right away, then keep asking. If you don’t get it even after that, then keep asking! When it comes to asking Allah, leave nothing.

P.S Make a quick 10 second du’aa that my meeting goes well with my professor, Jazak Allah khayr :-)

Nike is just too sick. Waasiq put this ad on his PSP and we watch it from time to time. Same with the Payton ad entitled “Manning’s Mind”. Notice how he chooses to throw it to my boy, Dallas Clark (thinking Madden 07, here). –> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MZS6BcS9kLI

May Allah help your meeting go smooth and help things go in your favor, ameen!

Jazakum Allahu khayran, very nice reminder. btw the surah reference for the ayah “And your lord said pray to me, I will respond to your invocations” is surah 40 (Surah Ghaafir or Mu’min) not 90. wa Allahu ‘alam.

Like they say, “Allah gives and forgives, humans get and forget”

Anyways akhi, may Allah give you the best and grant you a higher grade than you expect. May he make your school and study easy for you and utilize your ilm to serve his deen with the purest of intentions. May Allah also bless your dear mother (and all of ours) and reward them for their constant reminders. Ameen.

    Let us know what happens…….
